Working on the Alexibake tray range

Another major new sustainable direct food contact product from Alexir Packaging sees its launch in two of the largest retailers.

The “alexibake”® range is an entirely new product from Alexir Packaging. It combines the use of a bespoke material developed in conjunction with a leading board mill.

  • The pack is made from renewable and sustainable resources with no polymer coating.
  • It can be suitable for dual oven, freezer and chiller use.
  • There is no evidence of leaching or staining on the pack once filled.
  • The wide, clear surfaces offer excellent branding opportunities
  • It offers excellent weight reduction opportunities compared to current formats.
  • Proven to reduce waste by up to 15%.
  • Increase in fill and production speeds against other packaging formats.

History of the product

The project was started in 2008, we were approached by a long standing client to place un-baked batter for a loaf cake directly into a board tray. Over 30 materials were tried and tested from the library that has been built up over many years – only 3 were successful and after 15 months of trialing the loaf cake product was launched into Morrisons.

Launch

Most other products in this catagory in the market show signs of staining and leaching on the outside of the pack, in the first 12 months of manufacture and after producing over 2 million units we have not had one complaint or comment re leach or stain marks.
